Canadian Set-Top Box Energy Conservation Agreement Kicks Off With Inaugural Steering Committee Meeting

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto, June 1, 2017 – Last week, signatories met face-to-face for the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Voluntary Agreement for Set-Top Boxes (CEEVA) in Toronto. Representatives from each of the signatories as well as Natural Resources Canada and supporting organizations CableLabs and the Consumer Technology Association were in attendance. The parties met to further the implementation of commitments that are expected to reduce the total annual energy consumption of Canadian set-top boxes and cut annual carbon dioxide emissions by over 100,000 metric tonnes, the equivalent of taking more than 44,000 cars

Boomtown Announces Accelerator With UpRamp

UpRamp is working with Boomtown to sponsor, select and support 20 startups in the connectivity industry BOULDER, Colo. — May 19, 2017 — Boomtown Accelerator, which nurtures carefully selected startups through a 12-week accelerator program, has announced a three-year agreement with  UpRamp, a subsidiary of CableLabs. Together, the companies plan to select, accelerate and invest in early stage startups that are building products and services related to connected devices and connectivity software. Faster Cellular Signals Could Mean Slower Wi-Fi

Wireless companies will soon be transmitting data in the same part of the public airwaves that’s used by Wi-Fi. Dubbed as LTE-U, the carriers will have more spectrum to play with, which should lead to faster speeds for their customers. Those cellphone signals may interfere with Wi-Fi transmissions. Vice President of Technology Policy at CableLabs, Rob Alderfer, commented on the move in a San Jose Mercury News article.
