CableLabs Lead Architect Josh Redmore Recognized by Wi-Fi Alliance®

On October 23, 2018, Josh Redmore received the Wi-Fi Alliance Member Recognition Award for his Vice Chair leadership of Wi-Fi Certified™ Home Design. The certification program introduced in 2017 brings professionally designed, builder-installed Wi-Fi networks to new homes. According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, the program delivers "enterprise design practices for planning and installing Wi-Fi networks to the new home construction industry, resulting in consistent, whole-home coverage and an exceptional Wi-Fi experience from the day the homeowner moves in." CableLabs Hosting First CBRS Alliance Interop Aug. 27-31

This week, CableLabs is hosting the first CBRS Alliance interoperability test at our facility in Louisville, Colorado. This event will allow participants to test the interactions between access points operating in the emerging shared 3.5 GHz Citizens Broadband Radio Service band and a new breed of Spectrum Access Systems (SASs). This initial interop event "is an important prerequisite for commercialization of the 3.5GHz band expected later this year," the organization added. Dr. Bernardo Huberman Speaking at Technical University of Denmark on AI

On Wednesday, August 29th CableLabs Fellow and vice president of the Core Innovation Team, Bernardo Huberman, is giving a talk on Artifical Intelligence and the Network at the internationally renowned Technical University of Denmark (DTU). A former senior vice president at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company and director of the Mechanisms and Design Lab at HP Labs, Dr. Huberman has over 30 years' experience in innovation. Originally from Argentina, he received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently a consulting professor in the Department of Applied Physics at Stanford University. WiFiForward Releases New Economic Report on the Value of Wi-Fi and Unlicensed Spectrum

On May 17 WifiForward, a coalition of companies, organizations and public sector institutions released a new economic report on Wi-Fi and unlicensed spectrum in the United States. Some of the highlights from the report include: Since 2013, the economic value of unlicensed spectrum has grown 129%, from $229B to $525B. The current economic surplus of unlicensed spectrum in the U.S. from a selected set of applications amounts to, at least, $496.13 billion today, while also contributing $29.06 billion to the nation’s GDP (a total value to the economy of $525.19 billion). The value of just this set of applications will continue to grow,

Dr. Jennifer Andreoli-Fang Honored as the Hedy Lamarr Female Tech Pioneer of the Year

CableLabs is pleased to announce that Distinguished Technologist Dr. Jennifer Andreoli-Fang has won Light Reading's prestigious 2018 Hedy Lamarr Female Tech Pioneer of the year award. Now in its fourteenth year and voted on by the Women in Comms (WiC) Board of Advisors, the award seeks to recognize women in the next-generation communications industry that have made substantial technological contributions in the past year to the sector. CableLabs is Fueling Innovation Through a Neurodiverse Workplace

NCTA recently interviewed CableLabs President and CEO Phil McKinney on the subject of neurodiversity in the workforce. Phil McKinney is a long-time advocate for the hiring and managing of neurodiverse individuals; people who live with varying forms of neurological differences, such as autism. He launched a neurodiversity hiring program here a couple of years ago, and the organization now receives calls from all over the world from people and organizations seeking advice on how to manage and coach neurodiverse hires.
