CableLabs’ Mariam Sorond Speaks at Fierce Wireless 5G Blitz Week

Mariam Sorond, Chief Research & Development Officer, represented CableLabs' mobile initiatives as a panelist on the Virtualization in 5G session for Fierce Wireless’ 5G Blitz Week. Mariam discussed that cable operators are getting into network virtualization for wireless networks. CableLabs has members that are full MNOs, including Vodafone, GCI, Shaw, Rogers and Millicom. “We have been active in the mobile and wireless space for a significant amount of time,” said Sorond. “We’re participating in O-RAN, TIP and the 3GPP. CableLabs’ Fellow and Distinguished Technologist Make Short List for Outstanding Book

CableLabs' Alberto Campos, Fellow, and Steve Jia, Distinguished Technologist, recently wrote a book Coherent Optics for Access Networks - with chapters authored by multiple others at CableLabs. This book has recently made the shortlist for Outstanding Book and Digital Product Award from Taylor and Francis. This book has been the result of effective collaboration with book chapter contributions from several CableLabs team members including Junwen Zhang, Mu Xu, Jing Wang, Lin Cheng, Haipeng Zhang, Chris Stengrim and Curtis Knittle. There were also chapter contributions from Dr. Domanic Lavery and Dr. M. Sezer Erkilinc from the University College in London. Congratulations

Luther Smith, Director of Wireless Access Technology, Presented 2019 Outstanding Leadership Award

A big congratulations to Luther Smith, Director of CableLabs' Wireless Access Technologies team, for receiving the Outstanding Leadership award for 2019 presented by Wireless Broadband Alliance. This award was endorsed by WBA Board with an honors mention based on the following: Heavy lifting contributions across different WBA projects and initiatives Creating bridges across groups in the WBA and streamlining work Leading by example and motivating broadly the project teams Congratulations Luther!

Belal Hamzeh Discusses Project Adrenaline in Online LightReading Event

You may have heard, CableLabs and Altran have teamed up on new project, Project Adrenaline. This project "aims to provide a centrally managed distributed and heterogeneous computing platform that supports the deployment of workloads across the operator's infrastructure." In a recent Light Reading online event, CableLabs CTO Belal Hamzeh discussed this new project and how cable networks are evolving into a connectivity and compute platform. The Future Is Bright but Secure

With great bandwidth, comes great responsibility... Over the last several years CableLabs has been engaged with standard organizations such as, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) and the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), to draft specifications and guide security baselines for IoT devices. This work has culminated in the release of OCF's international ISO\IEC specification for IoT interoperability. CableLabs' Kyle Haefner, Senior Security Engineer, wrote a great blog about OCF's specification, check it out today!

CableLabs and Altran Team up for Open Source Project

Project Adrenaline is an open source initiative that aims to help the cable industry build and manage edge networks and smooth the path for apps that can run on them. Adrenaline is part of the SNAPSTM Program that is being developed at CableLabs to "automate the installation of an open hardware platform with accelerators, including GPU and FPGA cards."
