Key DOCSIS® 4.0 Takeaways From Cable Next-Gen Technologies and Strategies

About six months ago, CableLabs released DOCSIS® 4.0 specification. Skip to this year's Cable Next-Gen Technologies and Strategies event, Doug Jones, Principal Architect at CableLabs, said that he expects CableLabs to "begin some initial interoperability work – a precursor to certification testing – in 2021." CableLabs Low Latency Program Team and the Future of Latency

CableLabs Low Latency Program Team, Greg White, Matt Schmitt, Steve Glennon, Barry Ferris, Karthik Sundaresan, Dr. Jennifer Andreoli-Fang and Shahed Mazumder, have been building and testing latency and congestion management solutions for some time, including one that is well-tailored to game streaming. Vodafone Germany’s Cable Network Surpasses 21 Million Households With Access to Gigabit Speeds

An additional 1.7 million homes now have access to gigabit speeds. CableLabs’ Mariam Sorond Speaks at Fierce Wireless 5G Blitz Week

Mariam Sorond, Chief Research & Development Officer, represented CableLabs' mobile initiatives as a panelist on the Virtualization in 5G session for Fierce Wireless’ 5G Blitz Week. Mariam discussed that cable operators are getting into network virtualization for wireless networks. CableLabs has members that are full MNOs, including Vodafone, GCI, Shaw, Rogers and Millicom. “We have been active in the mobile and wireless space for a significant amount of time,” said Sorond. “We’re participating in O-RAN, TIP and the 3GPP. CableLabs’ Fellow and Distinguished Technologist Make Short List for Outstanding Book

CableLabs' Alberto Campos, Fellow, and Steve Jia, Distinguished Technologist, recently wrote a book Coherent Optics for Access Networks - with chapters authored by multiple others at CableLabs. This book has recently made the shortlist for Outstanding Book and Digital Product Award from Taylor and Francis. This book has been the result of effective collaboration with book chapter contributions from several CableLabs team members including Junwen Zhang, Mu Xu, Jing Wang, Lin Cheng, Haipeng Zhang, Chris Stengrim and Curtis Knittle. There were also chapter contributions from Dr. Domanic Lavery and Dr. M. Sezer Erkilinc from the University College in London. Congratulations

Belal Hamzeh Discusses Project Adrenaline in Online LightReading Event

You may have heard, CableLabs and Altran have teamed up on new project, Project Adrenaline. This project "aims to provide a centrally managed distributed and heterogeneous computing platform that supports the deployment of workloads across the operator's infrastructure." In a recent Light Reading online event, CableLabs CTO Belal Hamzeh discussed this new project and how cable networks are evolving into a connectivity and compute platform.
