Billions of Bits Per Second Fly by at CableLabs 10G Showcase

On April 27, 2022, attendees at the CableLabs 10G Showcase had a front-row seat to history in the making. Two U.S. cable operators, Charter and Comcast, unveiled a series of DOCSIS 4.0 prototypes that reached near-10G speeds with incremental changes to the cable plant. Both demonstrations were based on distributed access architectures, using Remote-PHY and Remote-MACPHY devices that were built to CableLabs’ specifications. The 5G Challenge Announces Early Bird Contestants – But It’s Not Too Late to Apply!

Yesterday, NTIA announced the contestants from the Early-Bird applications. "After evaluating the Early-Bird white papers, the 5G Challenge selected Rakuten Mobile USA’s Central Unit (CU) and Distributed Unit (DU) for interoperability testing with the 5G Challenge host lab, CableLabs." Congratulations to Rakuten Mobile! And remember, it’s not too late to enter the challenge. Make sure to submit a final white paper by May 5. Apply now!

Belal Hamzeh Takes Over CableLabs Convergence Projects

Belal Hamzeh, senior vice president and chief technology officer at CableLabs, takes over convergence projects. This responsibility includes "two major convergence-related projects The Convergence Council and the Mobile Convergence Committee (MCC). The Convergence Council is an advisory board largely made up of suppliers and connectivity vendors tasked with identifying convergence use cases. The MCC, a group comprised of various cable and mobile operators, is focused on developing industry requirements for networks focused on the convergence architecture and its specifications." CableLabs Named Host Lab for NTIA-ITS 5G Challenge

The goal of the 5G Challenge is to accelerate the development and widespread deployment of open and interoperable 5G networks with true plug-and-play operation. In support of this effort, CableLabs was recently named the Host Lab for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and NTIA 5G Challenge. Charter and Vecima Demonstrate Long-Term HFC Network Future with Multi-Gigabit DOCSIS 4.0
