// NewsCableLabs Takes the Stage to Discuss the Power of Coherent Optics
The Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) is where the optical communications industry comes together to showcase the latest industry advancements and unveil new products.
On March 24th, CableLabs Principal Architect, Matt Schmitt, will be on board to discuss the benefits, challenges, technical feasibility, and economics of adopting next-generation coherent PON solutions. More information on Matt’s session can be found here.
Also on March 24th, Dr. Steve Jia, CableLabs Fellow & Director of Advanced Optical Technologies, will present a 1-hour tutorial session “Unlocking the Potential of Coherent Passive Optical Networks: Use Cases, Key Technologies, and Specification Development.” Details can be found on the agenda under M1I Next Generation Coherent PON.
Principal Architect, Haipeng Zhang, will be making two presentations: “Silicon Carbide Soliton Microcmb Generation for Narrow-Grid Optical Communications” on March 25th, and “Hybrid TFDM Coherent PON Featuring Adaptable Capacity and Out-of-band Communication Channels” on March 28th. Haipeng will also be presiding over the Next Generation Coherent PON session on March 25th.
On March 27th, Dr. Jia also will moderate a panel that will explore tailored techniques to harness the power of coherent for next-generation access capacity, flexibility and reach.
Wrapping things up on March 28th, Dr. Jia will co-present a poster on “Performance Evaluation and Optimization of LDPC FEC for 100 Gbps Coherent Passive Optical Networks,” demonstrating its feasibility for future PON applications.
