CableLabs Mobile Summit – 5G Ecosystem

Register Now

CableLabs invites you to participate in the upcoming Mobile Summit focusing on the 5G Ecosystem.

5G has been deployed globally for a few years and customers have been gradually upgrading to 5G service as it becomes available. Customer expectations of 5G services and features remain elevated, mainly due to the earlier hypes and visions. Join us and hear from operators faced with addressing these high expectations as they continue to transition from 4G to 5G networks.

Registration is open, and each person must register separately. The event is FREE – there is no cost to attend.

Date: Wednesday, December 15, 2021

Time: 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. MST

Registration Deadline: Friday, December 10, 2021

A Member-Only event.

Agenda

    • 8:00-8:10 a.m. Welcome

      Speaker: David Debrecht, CableLabs
    • 8:10-8:40 a.m. An Operator’s View on 5G Deployment, Advantages and Challenges

Josh Lonn, VP Wireless Products, will discuss GCI’s initial motivations for 5G deployment, and how the upgrade has turbo-charged GCI’s overall product portfolio. Josh will also discuss initial findings, lessons learned and challenges to consider when transitioning from 4G to 5G.

      Moderator: John Kim, CableLabs
      Speaker: Josh Lonn, GCI
    • 8:40-9:10 a.m. Industry Trends

As traditional Tier 1 mobile operators continue to prepare their networks for the latest releases of 5G, they are gradually upgrading their core and radio networks with a virtualized, cloud native network platform that use application software. This requires a re-architecture that decouples closed systems, offered by traditional telecom vendors, to an open-source software-based solution that runs on any hardware. This panel will address various aspects of this industry trend as mobile operators and vendors develop transition strategies to realize the benefits of 5G.

      Moderator: Mark Poletti, CableLabs
      Speakers:
      Blago Gjorgjievski, Telenet
      Shawn Hakl, Microsoft
    • 9:10-9:20 a.m, Break
    • 9:20-9:50 a.m. 3GPP: The Past, Present and Future

Mobile technology has evolved from the first-generation cellular technology to fifth-generation (5G) cellular technologies. 3GPP has been a key driver of the mobile wireless technologies' standardization, including radio access, core network and service capabilities. A high coverage of the 3GPP and related roadmap of mobile technology generation will be reviewed, along with key features and use cases for different generations, including the upcoming 3GPP release 18 features and 6G.

      Moderator: Yunjung Yi, CableLabs
      Speakers:
      Juan Montojo-Bennassar, Qualcomm
      Juho Lee, Samsung Electronics
    • 9:50-10:25 a.m. Government Policy: Accelerating the Development and Deployment of Secure Wireless Networks

Governments around the world have taken a keen interest in accelerating the deployment of secure wireless networks – 5G and beyond. They are focused on allocating additional spectrum (low, mid, and mmWave) and exploring new and innovative sharing mechanisms to drive increased utility of scarce spectrum resources. In addition, governments are adopting policies to advance the development of open and interoperable network technologies (e.g., open RAN) as an enabler of secure 5G networks. Please join us to discuss the spectrum and wireless policy considerations of the 5G ecosystem.

      Moderator: Mark Walker, CableLabs
      Speaker: Derek Khlopin, NTIA
