Phil McKinney, President and CEO at CableLabs
Phil McKinney is President and CEO of CableLabs. In this capacity he heads the research and development organization responsible for charting the cable industry’s technology and innovation roadmap.
Prior to joining CableLabs, he was the vice president and chief technology officer of the $40 billion (FY12) Personal Systems Group at HP. He was responsible for long-range strategic planning, research and development (R&D) and product roadmaps for the company’s PC product lines, including mobile devices, notebooks, desktops and workstations. In addition, Phil was founder and leader of HP’s Innovation Program Office (IPO). The IPO was chartered to identify, incubate and launch adjacent and fundamentally new technologies, products and services that would become the future growth engines for HP.
Recently (February 2012), Phil released his first book on innovation and personal creativity titled Beyond The Obvious, published by Hyperion. The book is available in hardcover, digital and audio formats. The book will soon be available in Russian, Chinese, Portuguese (Brazil), Korean and Japanese.
His influence on innovation and creativity includes:
- Sharing his expertise in innovation and creativity, free of charge (in an approach he refers to as “paying it forward”) through his award winning podcast Killer Innovations™ (available on iTunes). It has been named by CIO Insight as a “must listen” podcast.

Jennifer Andreoli-Fang, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs
Dr. Jennifer Andreoli-Fang is a Distinguished Technologist in the OCTO and R&D group at CableLabs in Boulder, Colorado. Jennifer joined CableLabs in 2007, and has led the development of key technologies for the cable industry, including DOCSIS® and unlicensed LTE. She is currently leading the innovations on fixed mobile convergence, as well as the multi-vendor team for the development of technologies to enable mobile backhaul and fronthaul over the HFC. Previously, she led the development of Full Duplex DOCSIS MAC, DOCSIS 3.1 MAC, and the evolution of the DOCSIS 3.0 MAC.
Jennifer is actively involved in research and development of both fixed and mobile broadband communication systems. She has over 60 patents issued or pending, and published more than 30 papers at IEEE and SCTE. Prior to joining CableLabs, she held positions in the wireless and satellite industry.
Jennifer received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2005, and the Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1998.

Rachel Beisel, SVP and CMO at CableLabs
As senior vice president and chief marketing officer of CableLabs, the non-profit research and development lab funded by the global cable industry, Rachel Beisel is an integral member of the senior management team and is responsible for the creation, development and execution of CableLabs marketing, communications and events strategy. Rachel contributes to the organizational strategic planning process, and directs marketing initiatives that span across digital communications, brand, video production, advertising, global communications and events for CableLabs and its subsidiaries, Kyrio and UpRamp.
Rachel hails from music-city Nashville, Tennessee where she got her start in marketing and public relations in the country music scene. She has been recognized as Denver Business Journal's CMO of the Year finalist, Colorado BizMagazine's Top 25 Most Influential Young Professionals in 2014, Boulder Valley's 40 Under Forty honorees in 2016 and Colorado Technology Association Women in Technology Luminary in 2016.
Entrepreneurial by nature, she founded three companies and is deeply involved in growing the Colorado technical industry. Rachel is an organizer for multiple community groups including Boulder Startup Week, an advisor for Colorado-based venture and corporate-backed technology startups, and cause-based nonprofits. She is a former board member for the Downtown Boulder Partnership and the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado, and a guest lecturer at Colorado University Boulder and Galvanize, a technology and data science program. Rachel also holds a national championship title guiding blind athletes in cycling. When not working, you’ll find her at a 24-hour mountain bike race or cross-country skiing across Colorado.

Alberto Campos, Fellow of Core Innovation at CableLabs
For the past 26 years, Dr. L. Alberto Campos has worked on broadband access networks, covering Cable, DSL, Wireless and Optical Transport technologies. He has conducted extensive research on upstream transmission impairments of HFC networks and cable modem networking protocols. Early in his career at GTE/Verizon Laboratories, he was the technical lead in GTE’s cable modem network deployments.
Dr. Campos joined CableLabs® in 2002. He has been responsible and led work in DRFI, DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1 PHY specifications. In 2017, he was named CableLabs’ first Fellow in CableLabs’ 30 year history. His interests include wireless and optical communications, advanced applications and services, network dimensioning, network reliability, service assurance and proactive network maintenance. He has conducted seminal work in the areas of proactive network maintenance, DOCSIS 3.1 and coherent optics. This last activity resulted in CableLabs’ Point-to-point Coherent Optics Specification effort.
He has numerous publications and over 25 patents granted in the areas of RF, high-speed fiber-optic links and broadband access networks. He holds a BSEE, a MSEE and a Ph.D. degree, obtained respectively in 1984, 1986 and 1991 from Northeastern University in Massachusetts.

Steve Goeringer, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs
Steve Goeringer is a distinguished technologist at CableLabs, responsible for developing innovative security solutions for emerging technologies. Additionally, he is the security working group chairperson for the Center for Medical Interoperability. He has recently been developing a trust framework and associated specifications for secure medical device interoperability, researching security of network functions virtualization (NFV) and software defined networks (SDN) for carrier networks, and creating new security approaches for cable architecture. Steve has also investigated innovations in integrating cryptography in cameras, developed blockchain solutions for both cable industry and health care use cases, and contributed new approaches to securing home networks.
Prior to working at CableLabs, Steve worked as a consultant for Polar Star Consulting, LLC, providing technology leadership to government agencies. In this role, he researched quantifiable benefits of WAN acceleration solutions in mission critical environments, investigated security vulnerabilities of high speed ethernet networks, and designed and engineered nationwide optical networks. Before that, he fulfilled several engineering and management roles at Qwest, including technical director of access and transport strategy.
Steve is a contributing author to “Guide to Security in SDN and NFV” from Springer Publishing and has participated and presented on blockchain, dark web, and medical security topics at IEEE, SCTE, and ETSI events. He spent 12 years at the National Security Agency where he was a Master Intelligence Analyst. He started his career in the U.S. Army as a communications station technical controller. Steve has a Bachelor of Science degree in computer and information science from the University of Maryland University College.

Dr. Jia is a Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs, focusing on future optical access architectures and emerging broadband wired and wireless converged technologies. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers, 3 book chapters, and has more than 30+ granted or pending patents. Dr. Jia has a bachelor and master degree in Department of Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA.

Curtis Knittle, Vice President of Wired Technologies at CableLabs
As Vice President of Wired Technologies at CableLabs, Curtis and his team are responsible for specifying scalable deployment solutions in both HFC and all-fiber access networks for CableLabs member companies. DOCSIS® technologies, Full Duplex DOCSIS, Distributed CCAP Architectures, and Point-to-Point Coherent Optics are a few current high priority projects underway and led by members of the Wired Technologies team. Prior to joining CableLabs, Curtis led an engineering team at Harmonic, Inc. to develop the world’s first CMTS-in-a-node and Ethernet-switch-in-a-node, both solutions representing the first instantiation of what today is called deep fiber Distributed Access Architecture solutions for the cable industry. Currently, Curtis is also the Chair of the IEEE 802.3ca 50G-EPON Task Force, helping to usher in the first 50Gb/s PON solution.
Curtis holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, and an M.S. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University.

Mark Poletti, Director of Wireless at CableLabs
Mark Poletti is the Director of wireless technologies at CableLabs; a non-profit R&D organization that is dedicated to creating and driving technologies and innovations critical to the cable industry’s technology roadmap. In this role, Mark is responsible for wireless R&D activities across fixed, mobile and emerging wireless technologies. Prior to CableLabs, Mark has built, managed and operated 3G (CDMA) and 4G (WiMax) networks for US WEST and Clearwire, respectively. He has also been addressing mobile operator design, operations and performance issues of 2G, 3G, 4G, and satellite networks for over 20 years with such companies as ViaSat, Clearwire, ATECS/Centerline, U S WEST/Qwest, and General Electric. Mark holds a M.S in Telecommunications from University of Colorado and has multiple issued and pending patents.

Jason Rupe, Principal Architect at CableLabs
Dr. Jason Rupe got his Ph.D. a long time ago, conducting research on large scale systems and networks for reliability and performance modeling. He taught quality control, reliability, and even a few software and electronics courses at various universities. He has worked at USWEST Advanced Technologies, Qwest Communications, Polar Star Consulting, Tenica, and as an independent consultant to the IEEE. In these companies, he has had titles including technical staff, senior technical staff, and director; but he has always been the companies’ expert on reliability and quality. In these roles, he has been able to design or help design several networks for the government and private sector, assure broadband deployments are profitable and reliable, design solutions that meet targeted service level agreements, design and test network solutions for high reliability, and invent a few cool things too. He is heavily involved in the IEEE, in various roles at conferences, on the IEEE Reliability Society ExCom (elected), as a co-chair for the IEEE Blockchain Initiative, and as chair of IEEE Denver Section. Currently, he is the Principal Architect for Proactive Network Maintenance at CableLabs, where he is the champion for all opportunities to help the industry improve service reliability for the cable industry. He holds a couple patents, and is working on a bunch more.

Brian Scriber, VP of Security Technologies at CableLabs
Brian Scriber is a Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs and the Vice President of Security Technology. Brian works with wired and wireless networking leaders on security strategy and implementation using advanced technologies and techniques including PKI, blockchains, encryption, and differential privacy.
Brian holds a B.S.E in Computer Engineering (University of Michigan) a M.S. in Computer Science (University of Colorado), and an M.B.A. in Technical Strategy (University of Colorado). From 2015 through 2019, Brian was the chair of the Security Working Group at the Open Connectivity Foundation. Brian brings his extensive experience in software, security, and cryptographic governance to both economic and technical analysis activities.
Brian’s background includes technical and executive leadership roles creating and protecting strategic network communications at companies including Lockheed Martin, Sun Microsystems; protecting financial information and transactions in the financial sector as well as protecting privacy and portability of personal information with companies in the healthcare and insurance markets. -
Karthik Sundaresan, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs
Karthik Sundaresan, Distinguished Technologist at CableLabs, is responsible for the development and architecture of cable access network technologies. He is the technical lead and long-time contributor to various DOCSIS technologies (FDX, D3.1, D3.0, RPHY, eDOCSIS, L2VPN, PCMM). He is focused on MAC and IP layer protocols, with recent research in areas around Profile Management, Low Latency, SDN/NFV implications for the cable access network and the application of Machine learning to data from cable networks.
Previously, he developed hardware designs for MPEG encoders, analog video decoders and cable modems at Conexant Systems, and developed embedded software for telecom networking equipment at Carrier Access. Karthik holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (University of Colorado, Boulder) and is (ISC2) CISSP certified. He is the past Chair of the IEEE Communications Society, Denver Chapter.

Greg White, Distinguished Technologist of Next generation Systems at CableLabs
Since joining CableLabs in 1999, Greg White has been a technical leader who has been instrumental in developing several key technologies for the cable industry. White acted as the lead architect for the Emmy Award winning DOCSIS 3.0 specification as well as DOCSIS 2.0, Modular-CMTS and DOCSIS Set-Top Gateway (DSG), and he contributed to the development of DOCSIS 3.1 and to DOCSIS 1.1. His leadership and contributions to the DOCSIS program have been profoundly important to its success.
In addition to his technical leadership of these industry specifications, White has been a leader in the standards arena, actively promoting ANSI/SCTE standards based on CableLabs specifications, serving as Chairman of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) Cable Technical Committee, and leading cable modem standardization in the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). White is currently actively engaged in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).
Current research interests include new technologies to reduce latency in networks, Information Centric Networking, measurement of network performance, and understanding QoS-QoE relationships.
