Record Number of Vendors Participate in Recent CableLabs® Tru2way™ Interop
Louisville, Colorado, May 20, 2009—A record turnout of more than 20 suppliers representing content and hardware sectors participated in a successful CableLabs®-hosted tru2way™ interoperability event recently. Application developers and hardware manufacturers joined together for a week of laboratory sessions where numerous tru2way and Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) applications ran across multiple headends, user agents and set-top boxes.
The twenty-two participating companies were ADB Global, Alcatel-Lucent, Biap, Inc., Cisco Systems, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Ensequence, Flashlight Engineering, Funai, HSN, iCueTV, itaas, Intel, S&T, Softel, Sony Electronics, Starz Entertainment, Time Warner Cable, TVWorks, UniSoft, Universal Electronics, Vidiom Systems, and VividLogic. More than thirty-five tru2way and ETV applications were contributed from the interop participants. Examples ranged from test and diagnostic applications to those geared toward a consumer experience such as shopping by remote or customizing the television viewing experience.
As the market momentum of tru2way grows during 2009, the number of vendor participants has increased at CableLabs-organized interops. Having more participants at a single interop increases the opportunities to collaborate. For example, in the recent interop, an OCAP™ application developer had the opportunity to run its application on as many as six different tru2way host devices. And, an ETV application was integrated on four user agents all in a single location.
CableLabs is planning its next tru2way interoperability event in the fall of 2009 and there is no charge to participate. The RFI will be posted on the OpenCable™ project website in the OpenCable News and Events area. In the meantime, more information about CableLabs interop events and access to application development tools can be found on the OpenCable Project hosted on Java.net located at: opencable.dev.java.net.
CableLabs' interoperability events provide vendors with an informal, laboratory setting in which they gain the opportunity to test their latest products within CableLabs' headends and testing environment, determine compliance with CableLabs' specifications and the ability of their products to interoperate with other devices in an end-to-end system. CableLabs uses these events as an opportunity to improve and validate its test environment and procedures.
