CableLabs® Develops VOD Metadata Transition Plan
CableLabs licenses MetaMore from This Technology, LLC, to facilitate transition
New York, NY, March 9, 2009—This Technology, LLC ("ThisTech") and Cable Television Laboratories, Inc., (CableLabs®) today announced that ThisTech has licensed its MetaMore software platform for use by CableLabs' Metadata project. CableLabs has named ThisTech's platform for demonstrating interoperability among CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1 and 2.0 specifications compliant systems.
Specifically, MetaMore will be the reference and first implementation for translation between CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1 and 2.0 specifications. MetaMore, the real-time metadata management solution conforms to CableLabs VOD Metadata 1.1, 2.0 specifications, and conforms to SCTE-130 specifications.
The CableLabs Metadata project defines critical business data about video on demand distribution, presentation, and multiplatform streaming. Using This Technology's software platform MSOs, content providers, and other advertising rights holders can now identify and control their supply of content and advertising opportunities.
Ralph Brown, CTO of CableLabs, said: "The CableLabs VOD 2.0 specification enables extensible metadata for multiple platforms and applications, including IP based distribution, VOD Playlists and advanced advertising. It is a major step forward for the industry. The adoption of VOD 2.0 has been slow due to the lack of a transition tool. CableLabs licensed this software platform for use in its Metadata project because it translates between legacy VOD 1.1 Metadata assets and the new VOD 2.0 Metadata specification. This core translation service provides the seamless and critical link the industry has needed in order to move forward towards VOD 2.0."
Jeffrey Sherwin, Founder of This Technology also added, "CableLabs has worked tirelessly with the community to create a workable standard that really provides a platform for innovation. This Technology has been proud to contribute to the standards work and play an operating role in helping CableLabs move the television industry toward new technology and business models."
