CableLabs® Verifies Three DTVs
More Than 60 Models Now Approved
Louisville, Colorado, August 24, 2004—CableLabs® announced today that three digital television (DTV) manufacturers successfully achieved verification status for new models of Digital Cable Ready (DCR) products. This marks the first time that Pioneer and Toshiba have had products tested and verified for compliance with the so-called plug and play testing program. Samsung previously had achieved certified status. The announcement followed the recent conclusion of a test wave conducted by CableLabs.
CableLabs also reports that more than 60 new DTV models from 11 different manufacturers now have been verified or self-verified for compliance with the unidirectional digital cable product test suite—the test suite that underpins all Digital Cable Ready (DCR) products.
Were excited to see the large number of DCR products entering the market, said Don Dulchinos, Vice President of Advanced Platforms and Services at CableLabs. These numerous choices for DTVs, together with all of the high definition and other digital programming already offered by cable operators, are finally making the digital transition a reality in peoples living rooms, he said.
CableLabs testing is conducted to show compliance with the applicable test suite, as well as to demonstrate interoperability with various CableCARD™s that are available for U.S. cable networks. Verification or certification indicates that the DTVs have shown compliance with the applicable test suite, but does not certify conformance with all applicable specifications, FCC rules, intellectual property licenses, or any other legal requirements applicable to DCR products, nor does it imply any subjective measure of product performance.
While CableLabs encourages product innovation and diversity, the verification terminology should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the products, nor an indication that the products conform to these other specifications, rules, or licenses, which are solely the responsibility of the company making the additional claims.
Note: The 11 manufacturers are Hitachi, LGE, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Thomson, and Toshiba.
