CableLabs® Receives Service in Technology Award
Louisville, Colorado, July 7, 1997—Cable Television Laboratories, Inc. (CableLabs®), the cable television industry's research and development consortium, has received the prestigious 1997 Service in Technology Award, along with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), from Communications Technology magazine and Phillips Publishing International.
The award was presented at the recent SCTE Cable-Tec Expo to Dr. Richard R. Green, CableLabs President and CEO, and to Dr. Richard S. Prodan, CableLabs Chief Technical Officer. The award honored both CableLabs and the SCTE for their work in pursuing specifications and standards on behalf of the cable television industry.
"This recognition means a lot to CableLabs. Seeking interoperability among suppliers is a key goal for us," Green said, "and to be honored with this service award for the effort we have put forth is gratifying." Prodan, who has led CableLabs initiatives aimed at achieving international standards, said that 1996 was a great year for the cable industry.
"The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.14 Committee and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Study Group 9 agreed with the cable industry's technical and commercial arguments and included CableLabs' proposals in their standards," Prodan said. "And, the SCTE adopted cable modem and digital video standards based upon CableLabs' work in fostering the integration among these services through maximum commonality."
