Judson (Jud) Cary, Vice President, Video Technology Policy, and Deputy General Counsel

Prior to working at CableLabs, Mr. Cary worked as an engineer in the R&D labs of U S WEST (now Qwest) in the knowledge-based systems group. After law school (Santa Clara University, cum laude), he worked as a patent attorney for the Silicon Valley-based law firm of Fenwick & West. Mr. Cary's main focus is with the CableLabs OpenCable™ Project for the development of advanced digital cable devices (including PCs and the OCAP middleware platform), content protection and content distribution technologies, and the laws and regulations governing cable operators in these areas. He also provides general advice on cable industry technology strategy, IPR licensing, standards setting, and defensive patent infringement coordination.
